Diagnostic Imaging Q & A

What types of diagnostic imaging are available?

ABC Medical Center performs all diagnostic imaging in-house, including:

Ultrasounds (sonograms)

The team performs abdominal, pelvic, renal, abdominal aorta, breast, neck/head, scrotal, and soft tissue (ligaments, tendons, etc.) ultrasounds.

Vascular imaging

Vascular imaging assesses blood flow in your upper or lower extremities. An ankle brachial index (ABI) is a common type of vascular imaging.

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram offers real-time image documentation of your heart. ABC Medical Center performs echocardiograms using Doppler technology.

Carotid imaging

Carotid imaging includes noninvasive cerebrovascular arterial studies.

FibroScan®

FibroScan is vibration imaging used for liver disease diagnosis.

Nerve conduction studies

Nerve conduction studies include autonomic nervous system (ANS) testing and SUDOSCAN for testing sweat glands.

Eye scans

Eye scans include retina eye exams that check the light-sensing cells in the back of the eye. This helps diagnose conditions like macular degeneration and can show early signs of diabetes.

What is the radiation risk associated with diagnostic imaging?

The risk of radiation damage from X-rays is extremely small. Although X-rays do require a tiny amount of radiation exposure, the benefits of highly specific diagnostics far outweigh the risks for most patients. Other types of diagnostic imaging, like ultrasound, use no radiation at all.

With all types of diagnostic imaging, the ABC Medical Center team always puts precautions in place to protect you from radiation damage and other risks. Patient safety comes first!

When will I get my diagnostic imaging results?

Because the team performs your diagnostic imaging in the ABC Medical Center office, you typically get answers the same day. Off-site imaging facilities take a few days to several weeks to get the results back to your family care doctor.

At ABC Medical Center, your physician can examine your results and determine whether you have a problem requiring treatment. If so, you can get the care you need immediately.

ABC Medical Center offers diagnostic testing to help make your medical care more convenient. Call the office or use the online scheduling tool today.
